Lyon Light Festival

The Lyon Light Festival takes place in December each year in order to honour and show gratitude toward Mary, mother of Jesus.

As a local tradition, every household puts candles across their windows to achieve a magical effect all throughout the streets of Lyon. Various other events and activities are held during the festival which takes place over the course of four days.

The Basilica of Fourviére and the Place des Terreux lighting up are the two most famous activities of the festival. Lighting designers create unique installations each year, and all is free to observe. Visitors may take a walk through the city centre and see the attractions
