Midnight Sun Film Festival

Season:Summer Month:June Continent:Europe Country:Finland Frequency:Yearly First Edition:1986

The Midnight Sun Film Festival (Sodankylän elokuvajuhla in Finnish) was founded in 1986 by the Kaurismäki brothers, and the Municipality of Sodankylä.

With its first inception in 1986, one of the main attractions of the festival is the nature of Lapland; the beautiful setting in which the sun doesn’t set. Films are shown non-stop without a break, and it takes place on the second week of June.

The festival’s program is not a competition; it is comprised of films directed by its main guests. Four to five young directors are also introduced each year.
